CENTER CITY CHARLOTTE

Center City Charlotte has become one of the nation’s most exciting residential areas. The resurgent economy has revitalized the Center City, attracting young professionals and families alike by offering some of the best and most affordable urban lifestyles in the country. Uptown Charlotte offers numerous employment possibilities, top-notch residences, a colorful nightlife and a rich, cultural and recreational environment.

The city is a blend of old historic buildings, tree-lined streets and modern skyscrapers. Residents can learn about the city’s history at the Charlotte Museum of History, see world-class exhibits at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design and Kids and enjoy Discovery Place – one of the nation’s top hands-on science museums, complete with a planetarium and IMAX Theatre.

Most downtown venues are within walking distance or residents can take advantage of the LYNX, Charlotte’s public light-rail transportation service. The LYNX Blue Line offers fast, quiet, convenient light-rail service to 15 stations between Uptown Charlotte and I-485 at South Blvd. Dozens of bus routes are timed to connect with trains at the Blue Line stations.

Uptown residents also enjoy a wide array of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities. Residents have the option of selecting a popular chain or four-star establishments, as well as cafes featuring foods from all over the world. Entertainment varies from the world-class Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Spirit Square to Bank of America Stadium and the Bobcats Arena. Available real estate has grown to accommodate the influx of residents. Options include a mix of condominiums, townhouses, single-family homes and high-rise luxury properties.

DILWORTH-MYERS PARK

Dilworth and Myers Park are adjoining neighborhoods that comprise the two original suburbs of Charlotte. The area contains some of Charlotte’s most charming, historical and eclectic streets and neighborhoods.
Originally outside the Charlotte city limits, Dilworth was developed in the 1890s and was linked to the uptown by trolley. Today, it is laid out in a grid pattern centered on East Boulevard and has a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Most venues are easily reached by walking along the community’s tree-lined streets. Quaint, well-kept bungalows with front porches are balanced by larger colonial-style homes and new construction designed to echo the neo-classical, historic feel of the neighborhood. Restaurants, coffee shops and a variety of boutique and specialty businesses are peppered along East Boulevard, South Boulevard, Morehead Street and Kings Drive. The neighborhood is anchored by Carolinas Medical Center, the largest medical facility in the Carolinas, to the south and by Dilworth Park and Dilworth Elementary School on its northern end.

Myers Park, like Dilworth, contains historic architecture and tree-lined streets. However, where Myers Park differentiates itself, is in its layout. The neighborhood was designed with curving streets, to flow with the natural landscape. With massive willow oaks, manicured lawns and winding roads, Myers Park seems more like a weekend retreat than an in-city neighborhood. Most of the residential properties of Myers Park are older, traditional homes but, like Dilworth, various modern developments have added condominiums and townhouses to the options available.

Shopping and dining is located along the eastern edge of the community, just off Providence Road. It includes four-star restaurants, a theater, banks, Starbucks, grocery store, a historic hardware store and more. Education opportunities abound with Myers Park Traditional School, Myers Park High School and Queens University of Charlotte, a fully accredited four-year school with graduate programs including the famed McColl School of Business.

EASTOVER

The Eastover neighborhood began in 1927. From its founding to the present day, Eastover has been the home of many of the financiers, lawyers, and other leaders who have directed the growth of Charlotte and the surrounding Piedmont industrial area.

Eastover is located southeast of the center city, across Providence Road from the earlier prestigious neighborhood of Myers Park. Eastover occupies a very gently rolling hillside which slopes down to Briar Creek. The neighborhood consists of large single-family residences, some 550 in number. Though the fine dwellings that once lined Providence Road itself have given way to commercial development, the rest of the neighborhood retains its well-kept residential character.

The neighborhood is home to the Mint Museum of Art known for its extensive collections of American, African and Pre-Colombian art. Presbyterian Hospital, one of the city’s premier medical facilities borders the northern edge of the Eastover community.

PLAZA-MIDWOOD

Plaza-Midwood is a neighborhood located approximately one mile to the northeast of Uptown Charlotte. In 1912, The Plaza was a narrow dirt road, surrounded on both sides by a large strawberry farm. The introduction of the trolley spawned the idea of a residential commuters' development here, and its proximity to Uptown continues to draw urban professionals and families today.
Locally known as one of Charlotte's most diverse and eclectic neighborhoods, it is filled with art galleries, funky stores, and restaurants. There is now a diverse array of houses with architectural influences ranging from bungalow to ranch and historic to contemporary. Its continued redevelopment has spilled over into other surrounding neighborhoods and has resulted in the overall renaissance of the area.

SOUTHEND

Historic South End has its beginning in the 1850s when the first railroad line came to Charlotte, connecting the Queen City to Columbia and Charleston, SC. South End is located to the south of Uptown Charlotte and Dilworth borders to the east. The area was revived in the 1990s as restaurants, shops, and design-related industries discovered the beauty and versatility of the old mills and warehouses.

The South End Corridor benefits from the LYNX Blue Line which offers convenient light-rail service to 15 stations between Uptown Charlotte and I-485 at South Blvd. Most all of what South End has to offers is accessible by walking. This makes the area a great place to call home. Residences are primarily condominiums consisting of converted warehouses, new complexes lining the light-rail line and mid-rise towers.

SOUTHPARK

The South Park district is located just south of Charlotte, centered at the intersection of Fairview and Sharon Roads. It has developed its own identity as a complete neighborhood for quality living, work and entertainment. Some of the characteristics making South Park so desirable for home buyers include: a high density of office space, quaint and quiet neighborhoods, an exciting selection of high-end housing and excellent shopping opportunities.

Anchored by South Park Mall, the South Park district is considered one of the premier retail centers in the entire South. The Mall is complemented by several, smaller shopping areas: Phillips Place with its upscale shops, Sharon Corners with great restaurants, Morrocroft Village with the flagship Harris Teeter grocery store, Specialty Shops on the Park with its hotel and boutiques and Piedmont Row, a mixed-use development featuring four-star restaurants and upscale boutiques.

South Park also hosts the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops series. These free concerts bring Charlotte together every summer Sunday evening at the neighborhood amphitheater. Nearby recreational sites include the Harris YMCA and Park Road Park. Resident families also benefit from South Park’s wide range of educational options. From kindergarten through high school, students have rich opportunities via the public school system or can attend private schools.

BALLANTYNE

Located just a few miles drive south of Uptown Charlotte, Ballantyne is a 2,000-acre community designed to achieve a balance between comfortable living, work and play. Features include meticulously designed streetscapes, upscale shopping centers, restaurants and a variety of high-quality housing. Ballantyne’s location provides an easy commute to all areas of the city. The I-485 outer loop provides convenient access to Uptown Charlotte, Lake Wylie and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

South Mecklenburg High School, South Charlotte Middle School and Endhaven Elementary are noted as some of the finest public schools in the city. Other schools in the area are the new Ardrey Kell High School, Community House Middle School and Hawk Ridge elementary schools. Each of these schools has established an excellent academic reputation.

Residences range from condominium complexes to multi-million dollar lake front mansions.

With its 325 miles of shoreline, Lake Wylie is ideal for boating, fishing and sailing. Elegant lakeside living, cozy wooded neighborhoods and spacious, convenient condominiums add to the feeling that you are enjoying a year-round resort. The lake’s proximity to Charlotte and Columbia has helped establish a dynamic business environment.

Carefully planned infrastructure improvements and close attention to preserving the area's natural beauty assure continued quality growth. The leisure and excitement of lakeside living, a small-town atmosphere and convenient proximity to regional commercial and cultural centers make Lake Wylie the perfect setting for the good life and good business.

MATTHEWS

Matthews began as a small farming community in the 1800s. It is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Charlotte Center City and remains a fast-growing community thanks to its proximity to the metro area.

Its downtown evokes small-town charm and residents enjoy an excellent quality of life with access to Charlotte, shopping, entertainment and ample recreation opportunities at its seven parks. Residents of Weddington enjoy the small-town ambience of their quiet, residential community. Weddington consists of large residential lots and wooded areas in the northwestern region of Union County. Secluded yet accessible, Weddington is only about 15 miles away from Uptown Charlotte. Interstate I-485 is located just three miles north and a variety of state highways serve the area. Although known for its quaint shops on Main Street, Pineville is also a magnet for the retail industry, providing over six million square feet of retail space for antiques, furniture, restaurants, national chains, department stores and local businesses.
