Charlotte is
North Carolina's largest city and the seat of Mecklenburg
County. It is located in the southern part of the state near the
South Carolina border. It was named for King George III of
England's wife, Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
Center City
Charlotte has become one of the nation’s most exciting
residential areas. The resurgent economy has revitalized the
Center City, attracting young professionals and families alike
by offering some of the best and most affordable urban
lifestyles in the country. Uptown Charlotte offers numerous
employment possibilities, top-notch residences, a colorful
nightlife and a rich, cultural and recreational environment.
Dilworth and
Myers Park are adjoining neighborhoods that comprise the two
original suburbs of Charlotte. The area contains some of
Charlotte’s most charming, historical and eclectic streets and
neighborhoods. The Eastover neighborhood began in 1927. From its founding to the present day, Eastover has been the home of many of the financiers, lawyers, and other leaders who have directed the growth of Charlotte and the surrounding Piedmont industrial area. Eastover is located southeast of the center city, across Providence Road from the earlier prestigious neighborhood of Myers Park. Eastover occupies a very gently rolling hillside which slopes down to Briar Creek. The neighborhood consists of large single-family residences, some 550 in number. Though the fine dwellings that once lined Providence Road itself have given way to commercial development, the rest of the neighborhood retains its well-kept residential character. The neighborhood is home to the Mint Museum of Art known for its extensive collections of American, African and Pre-Colombian art. Presbyterian Hospital, one of the city’s premier medical facilities borders the northern edge of the Eastover community.
Plaza-Midwood
is a neighborhood located approximately one mile to the
northeast of Uptown Charlotte. In 1912, The Plaza was a narrow
dirt road, surrounded on both sides by a large strawberry farm.
The introduction of the trolley spawned the idea of a
residential commuters' development here, and its proximity to
Uptown continues to draw urban professionals and families today.
Historic South End has its beginning in the 1850s when the first railroad line came to Charlotte, connecting the Queen City to Columbia and Charleston, SC. South End is located to the south of Uptown Charlotte and Dilworth borders to the east. The area was revived in the 1990s as restaurants, shops, and design-related industries discovered the beauty and versatility of the old mills and warehouses. The South End Corridor benefits from the LYNX Blue Line which offers convenient light-rail service to 15 stations between Uptown Charlotte and I-485 at South Blvd. Most all of what South End has to offers is accessible by walking. This makes the area a great place to call home. Residences are primarily condominiums consisting of converted warehouses, new complexes lining the light-rail line and mid-rise towers.
The South
Park district is located just south of Charlotte, centered at
the intersection of Fairview and Sharon Roads. It has developed
its own identity as a complete neighborhood for quality living,
work and entertainment. Some of the characteristics making South
Park so desirable for home buyers include: a high density of
office space, quaint and quiet neighborhoods, an exciting
selection of high-end housing and excellent shopping
opportunities.
Located just
a few miles drive south of Uptown Charlotte, Ballantyne is a
2,000-acre community designed to achieve a balance between
comfortable living, work and play. Features include meticulously
designed streetscapes, upscale shopping centers, restaurants and
a variety of high-quality housing. Real estate options consist
of executive, family homes, condominiums and townhouses. Most
subdivisions within Ballantyne cater to an active lifestyle with
neighborhoods often anchored by community golf, tennis or
swimming facilities. Ballantyne is known for some of the most
sought-after golf course communities in greater Charlotte,
including Ballantyne Country Club, Piper Glen and Providence
Country Club. With 520 miles of shoreline, more than the coastlines of North Carolina and South Carolina combined and being 34 miles long - the lake provides plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun on the largest man made lake in the Carolinas. Nestled on the banks of beautiful Lake Norman are the lake towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Sherrills Ford and Huntersville. Shop at upscale Birkdale Village, visit Historic Latta Plantation and stroll thru the Town of Davidson - home of Davidson College. Lake Norman is only 15 minutes north of Charlotte, two hours from the mountains of western North Carolina and only four hours from the coast. For the business and leisure traveler, Lake Norman is conveniently located along I-77, 25 minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Residences range from condominium complexes to multi-million dollar lake front mansions.
Lake Wylie is
a vibrant and thriving community where geography, people and
economic vitality have created a distinctive Southern lifestyle.
The lake spans the counties of York in South Carolina and
Mecklenburg and Gaston in North Carolina. Distinct seasonal
changes not only enhance the area's beauty, but also allow
recreation to be an integral part of the Lake Wylie lifestyle.
Matthews
began as a small farming community in the 1800s. It is located
approximately 10 miles southeast of Charlotte Center City and
remains a fast-growing community thanks to its proximity to the
metro area.
Residents of
Weddington enjoy the small-town ambience of their quiet,
residential community. Weddington consists of large residential
lots and wooded areas in the northwestern region of Union
County. Secluded yet accessible, Weddington is only about 15
miles away from Uptown Charlotte. Interstate I-485 is located
just three miles north and a variety of state highways serve the
area. Neighboring communities that share the picturesque
farmland and forests surrounding Weddington include Wesley
Chapel, Waxhaw and Matthews. Waxhaw is particularly known for
its historic uptown district, populated with antique and craft
shops. Other local attractions include several nearby museums
and Andrew Jackson State Park. This 360-acre park offers
visitors a range of recreational opportunities, such as hiking,
walking, fishing, picnicking and camping.
Pineville is
a charming suburb just south of the Charlotte city line.
Pineville is probably best known as the birthplace of James Knox
Polk, the 11th president of the United States. Residents love it
for its laid back and small town lifestyle. Although known for
its quaint shops on Main Street, Pineville is also a magnet for
the retail industry, providing over six million square feet of
retail space for antiques, furniture, restaurants, national
chains, department stores and local businesses.
